Statement Regarding 11th Circuit Immigration Order

(MONTGOMERY) – The Eleventh Circuit has now put two additional provisions of HB
56 on hold until it issues a decision following the Supreme Court’s resolution of the Arizona
case. This does not represent a final decision by the Court. The Court did not extend this
injunction to other challenged provisions of HB 56 setting rules for police officers to follow
when they encounter persons they reasonably believe to be illegal aliens.

Attorney General Luther Strange said “I strongly disagree with the Eleventh Circuit’s
decision today to temporarily enjoin two provisions of the immigration law that the District
Court upheld. I will continue to vigorously defend Alabama’s immigration law in the courts. I
am hopeful that the Supreme Court’s coming decision in the Arizona case will make clear that
our law is constitutional.”
