AG STRANGE ANNOUNCES ARREST FOR CHILD SEX CRIMES,
PRODUCTION AND POSSESSION OF OBSCENE MATERIALS

(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Luther Strange announced the arrest of a
Huntsville man for multiple charges of sex crimes against a child and both production
and possession of obscene material. Everett Emerson Cornett, 45, was served notice of
the indictment at the Madison County Jail, where he already was in custody on sexual
abuse charges brought earlier by a warrant.
Attorney General Strange’s Office presented evidence to a Madison County
grand jury on December 3, resulting in Cornett’s indictment* on December 6.
Specifically, the indictment charges him with:
three counts of first degree rape, a class A felony;
five counts of sexual abuse of a child aged less than 12 years, a class B felony;
three counts of first-degree sodomy, a class A felony;
35 counts of production of child pornography, a class A felony; and
50 counts of possession of child pornography, a class C felony.
No further information about the investigation or about Cornett’s s alleged
crimes other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.
If convicted, Cornett faces maximum penalties of 10 years to life imprisonment
for each of the class A felonies, two to 20 years for the class B felony, and one to 10 years
for the class C felony.

Attorney General Strange commended Assistant Attorneys General Kelly
Godwin and Andrew Arrington of his Criminal Trials Division, Special Agents of his
Investigations Division, and thanked the Huntsville Police Department.

*An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
