AG ANNOUNCES THEFT CONVICTION, SENTENCING
OF FORMER COVINGTON COUNTY VET CLINIC SECRETARY

(MONTGOMERY) – Attorney General Luther Strange announced the theft
conviction of a Covington County woman for stealing from the Opp Veterinary
Hospital while she was employed there as secretary and office manager.

Julie Blair Calhoun, 38, of Opp, pleaded guilty today in Covington County
Circuit Court to second-degree theft of property, a class C felony. She was
sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay full restitution in the
amount of $39,736.

The Attorney General’s Office presented the following facts to the Court:
Calhoun had been secretary and office manager of the Opp Veterinary Hospital, a
private animal hospital. Calhoun stole from her employer by manipulating the
computer accounting and transaction records. According to prosecutors, Calhoun
stole approximately $39,736 from the Opp Veterinary Hospital during a period that
began in 2005 and lasted until 2007 when she was fired.

Attorney General Strange thanked the Opp Police Department for its work in
this case. He also commended Assistant Attorney General Pete Smyczek of his
Public Corruption and White Collar Crime Division and Special Agents of the
Attorney General’s Investigations Division.
