AG NAMES KEVIN TURNER CHIEF DEPUTY AS RICHARD ALLEN RETIRES
(MONTGOMERY) – Attorney General Luther Strange announced today that Kevin
Turner will become Chief Deputy Attorney General upon the retirement of Richard
Allen this month. Attorney General Strange thanked Allen for his long and dedicated
service, and expressed confidence in a seamless transition with Turner, who has been
serving as Chief Counsel to the Attorney General. The change will be effective on
January 1, 2012.
“I am deeply appreciative that Richard Allen answered the call to service in
January, returning to lend his considerable skills and knowledge to guiding this office
in our mission to restore integrity and to provide responsible and fair leadership,” said
Attorney General Strange. “He is a true public servant and I am grateful that he has
been my friend and counselor.” Allen first came to the Attorney General’s Office in 1995
as Chief Deputy for then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions and served in that position for
the next ten years.
Attorney General Strange said he is pleased that Kevin Turner stands ready and
has agreed to take upon the responsibilities of serving as Chief Deputy upon Allen’s
retirement. “Kevin has stood by my side throughout this Administration and his service
as chief counsel has been invaluable. He has demonstrated strong leadership and I am
confident that he will be an outstanding asset to this office and to the citizens of
Alabama.”
Turner joined the Attorney General’s Office in January of 2011 with the
administration of Attorney General Strange. Previously he had practiced law at Bradley
Arant Boult Cummings LLP in Birmingham. Turner graduated summa cum laude with
a bachelor’s of arts degree in political science and economics from Hampden-Sydney
College in Virginia, where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees. Turner went on
to earn a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Alabama and
graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he
served on the managing board of the Alabama Law Review and earned the Dean M.
Leigh Harrison Award.
