STATEMENT FROM AG LUTHER STRANGE ON US SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
INFRINGEMENTS ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT

(MONTGOMERY) – “The Senate Judiciary Committee voted yesterday to
approve a ban on semi-automatic weapons and ammunition magazines
carrying more than ten rounds. The bill names over 150 existing weapons that
would be banned from law-abiding citizens exercising their constitutional
right to keep and bear arms. It does nothing to stop criminals from
committing crimes.

Likewise, earlier this week, the same Senate committee passed a universal
background check bill sponsored by Chuck Schumer that would turn millions
of Americans and their family members into criminals overnight.

The rights guaranteed us under the Second Amendment are fundamental and
sacred. The Senate Democrats are using the tragedies that befell our nation to
advance their political agenda. If these bills become law, I will move quickly to
challenge them and protect Alabama citizens from this abusive federal
overreach.”
