AG STRANGE ANNOUNCES CAPITAL MURDER INDICTMENT
OF MAN FOR DEATH OF WIFE IN BALDWIN COUNTY IN 2010
(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Luther Strange announced the arrest
today of Michael A. Wohlschlaeger, 61, for capital murder in the death of his wife,
Shirley Seitz Wohlschlaeger, who was killed in their home in Loxley on March 1, 2010.
The victim was a former resident of Blount County prior to moving to
Baldwin County with her husband.
Wohlschlaeger, now a resident of Pensacola, was arrested by the Gulf Coast
Regional Fugitive Task Force and will be returned to Alabama for prosecution.
Attorney General Strange’s Criminal Trials Division presented evidence to a
Baldwin County grand jury on May 19, resulting in Wohlschlaeger’s indictment*.
Specifically, the indictment charges that he “caused blunt force trauma” to his wife’s
head and caused her death for monetary gain.
If convicted, Wohlschlaeger faces either a death sentence or life in prison
without parole.
No further information about the investigation or about Wohlschlaeger’s
alleged crime other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.
Attorney General Strange commended Assistant Attorney General Andrew
Arrington of his Criminal Trials Division and Special Agents of his Investigations
Division. He thanked the Loxley Police Department, the Alabama Bureau of
Investigation and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

*An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
