AG STRANGE ANNOUNCES THAT COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS UPHOLDS
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER CONVICTIONS
(MONTGOMERY) – Attorney General Luther Strange announced that the Alabama
Court of Criminal Appeals on Friday upheld the murder conviction and the two attempted
murder convictions of Tresvon Tyrone Spencer. Spencer, 22, of Tuscaloosa, was convicted
in April of 2015 of the murder of Angelica Golston and the attempted murder of Demetria
Aaron and of Latrice Robertson.
Evidence was presented at trial showing that on January 12, 2013, police found
Golston dead on a couch at the Creekwood Village Apartments. Robertson was also found
lying on another couch near Golston with three gunshot wounds. Aaron was found sitting
on the stairs outside of the apartment with one gunshot wound to her leg. Police matched
shell casings found at the apartment with a gun retrieved from the dumpster of the
apartment complex. Police also found a cellular telephone belonging to Spencer in the
parking lot of the apartments, which contained a photograph of Spencer holding two guns,
one of which appeared to be the same gun found in the dumpster.
The case was prosecuted at trial by Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Lyn Head’s
office. Spencer was sentenced to life imprisonment for his murder conviction, and 20 years’
imprisonment for each attempted-murder conviction. He subsequently sought to have his
convictions reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Section handled the case during the
appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm the
convictions. The Court did so in a decision issued on Friday, August 5.
Attorney General Strange commended Assistant Attorney General Yvonne Saxon of
the Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Section for her successful work in this case.
