ATTORNEY GENERAL STEVEN T. MARSHALL:
U.S. SUPREME COURT DENIAL
OF CERT PETITION IN THOMAS ARTHUR CASE SIGNALS JUSTICE IS
APPOACHING FOR CONVICTED KILLER
(MONTGOMERY) – Alabama Attorney General Steven T. Marshall welcomed the
United States Supreme Court’s decision not to hear Alabama death row inmate Thomas
Arthur’s latest challenge to his death sentence. On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court
denied Arthur’s petition to grant certiorari to hear his challenge over the State’s method
of execution.
“The long wait for justice may be nearing an end for convicted killer Thomas Arthur,”
said Attorney General Steven T. Marshall. “For more than 30 years he has fought to
delay his execution for the 1982 cold-blooded murder of Troy Wicker of Muscle Shoals.
Today’s Supreme Court decision is the second in as many months denying Arthur’s
legal challenges to his death sentence. For the family of Troy Wicker, there is hope that
justice will soon be served.”
