AG MARSHALL ANNOUNCES INDICTMENT OF FORMER ALABAMA
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH EMPLOYEE FOR CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A
FORGED INSTRUMENT IN THE SECOND DEGREE, THEFT OF PROPERTY
IN THE FIRST DEGREE, AND USE OF OFFICE FOR PERSONAL GAIN

(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Steve Marshall today announced the
arrest of a former employee of the Alabama Department of Public Health for
criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, theft of property in
the first degree, and intentional use of office for personal gain. Yoskio Denise
Givner, alias Yoshiko D. Givner, 32, of Montgomery, was arrested on April 17 by the
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and was released on bond.
The Special Prosecutions Division of Attorney General Marshall’s Office
presented evidence to a Montgomery County grand jury on March 30, resulting in
Givner’s indictment* on that date. Specifically, the indictment charges that Givner
criminally possessed 19 forged instruments with the intent to defraud, committed
theft of more than $2,500, and used her office as an employee of the Alabama
Department of Public Health for personal gain.
No further information about the investigation or about Givner’s alleged
crimes other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.
If convicted, Givner faces a maximum penalty of one year and one day to 20
years of imprisonment and up to a $15,000 fine for each of the criminal possession of
a forged instrument charges, which are class C felonies, and two to 20 years of
imprisonment and up to a $30,000 fine for the theft and use of office charges, which
are class B felonies.

*An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
