AG Steve Marshall Announces Court of Criminal Appeals
Upholds Houston County Felony Murder Conviction

(MONTGOMERY) Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama
Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the felony murder conviction of Kharon Torchec
Davis. Davis, 34, of Dothan was convicted in Houston County Circuit Court in
September 2017 for the murder of Pete Reaves.
Evidence at trial established that on June 9, 2007, Davis, Lorenzo Stacey and Kevin
McCloud drove to Reaves’s apartment to purchase marijuana. While Stacey waited
outside, Davis and McCloud entered Reaves’s apartment. As McCloud was reaching
into his pocket to pay for the marijuana, Davis shot Reaves in the shoulder and chest,
killing him. McCloud was also shot in the neck. Davis, Stacey and McCloud fled from
Reaves’s apartment and McCloud was dropped off at his cousin’s apartment. He later
gave police a statement regarding the robbery.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Trials Division prosecuted the case against Davis, who
was sentenced to life imprisonment for his felony murder conviction. The Houston
County District Attorney’s Office previously prosecuted McCloud and Stacey. McCloud
pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 99 years’ imprisonment. Stacey also was
prosecuted for the murder but found not guilty.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division represented the State during Davis’s
appeal, urging the Court of Criminal Appeals to reject Davis’s arguments and to affirm
the conviction. On Friday, October 5, that court affirmed Davis’s conviction.
Attorney General Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Marc Starrett of the
Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division for his successful work in this case.
