Attorney General Steve Marshall Announces Arrest of Reserve Deputy
for Providing False Information to Register to Vote
(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Steve Marshall today announced the arrest of a
Henry County reserve deputy for providing false information to register to vote. Wylie
Aaron Mathis, 48, a resident of Houston County, is a reserve deputy in Henry County.
Mathis is charged by a warrant resulting from a complaint brought by the Attorney
General’s Office with providing a false address to register to vote in Henry County, in
violation of Code of Alabama ß 17-17-46. The crime is a class A misdemeanor
punishable by not more than one year in jail. Mathis surrendered on November 2 at the
Henry County Sheriff’s Office and was released.
“Whenever someone cheats in order to participate in an election they are not entitled to
vote in, the important civil rights of all citizens are diminished. The laws of Alabama
that protect the integrity of our elections are important to everyone. Those who violate
our election laws and undermine the sanctity of our electoral process can expect to be
vigorously prosecuted by my office,” said Attorney General Marshall.
The case is being prosecuted by Attorney General Marshall’s Special Prosecutions
Division.
No further information about the investigation or about Mathis’s alleged crime may be
released at this time.
