(Montgomery, Ala) – Attorney General Steve Marshall announces the conviction of a St. Clair County man on multiple counts of possession of child pornography with intent to disseminate and transmitting obscene matter. Terry DeWayne Herring, 28, of Pell City, pleaded guilty yesterday in St. Clair County Circuit Court to five counts of possession of obscene matter with intent to disseminate images and videos depicting a person under the age of 17 and one count of transmitting obscene matter to a child.

Herring was sentenced to serve 15 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender and abide by all requirements of Alabama’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

“This was an unusually heinous crime. One that causes unimaginable hurt and damage the victims, who are children.” said Attorney General Marshall. “Protecting victims and especially children is the top priority of the Attorney General’s Office and I am glad that justice was served so that the victims and their families in this case can begin the process of healing.”

Attorney General Marshall commended his Criminal Trials Division for its successful prosecution of this case, noting in particular Assistant Attorneys General Jillian Jordan Evans and Audrey Jordan, as well as the Special Agents of his Investigations Division and the Cybercrime Unit.
